Massive-box retailer Circuit City said last week it will close 155 of its shops, including 143 locations that residence a Verizon Wireless shop-inside-a-store location. The carrier has been the exclusive postpaid wireless provider supplied through Circuit City for the past couple of years â?? the retailer also offers Virgin Mobile USA Inc.â??s prepaid service â?? and was in charge of staffing and training the locations with Verizon Wireless employees. And the news got even much more dire this morning following Circuit Cityâ??s announcement that it would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.When asked about the closings, Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Brenda Raney mentioned the carrierâ??s main focus is to uncover new locations for the Verizon Wireless workers affected by the closures.
